ABOUT US

Open Again on the 1st February 2024

We look forward to seeing old friends and new!

2023, although heart breaking that we had to close the Fur and Feathers,

it did enable us time to travel, take stock and learn. We first headed to Delhi, Agra, Lucknow and Rajasthan, all these Indian places have their special characters and influences.

India to the uninitiated is an all out assault on the senses, be it sight - sound - taste - smell - the frenetic pace of life or peaceful tranquillity. We have never been to a place where the population have so much, or so little yet there is a palpable ambiance of peace, happiness, and acceptance of the situation.

At every stop food was on our mind, a rich history and culture in which food plays a huge role, learning the why and how of a small part of India left our belly's fit to bust but our mouths and mind hungry for more!

On to Vietnam, Hanoi, a place almost as frenetic as Delhi, but with a greater sense of order,

Infrastructure is more modern, roads are good, but like India it would seem nobody has taken a driving lesson or test!

Food in all countries, everywhere, mimic it's history, each invasion leaves an indelible mark on society and its habits, the Vietnamese are no different and they LOVE a sandwich! a relic of the colonial French who, like they did all over the world, left a rich culture of bakery, some of the best baguettes there are to be had are in Vietnam and the Banh Mi is a champion of this culture. Seafood, fresh, varied and stunning is available everywhere as Vietnam has a huge coastline being such a long, thin country hugging the shore of the South China Sea. This however is not to the detriment of the carnivore or vegetarian as all diets are well catered for here, and never boring!

We will be showcasing our learnings with special evenings throughout the year offering authentic offerings from Classical French, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Spain, Mexico and the Caribbean.

About the pub

The building was originally named “The New Inn”, the only pub name now legislated against!

Built circa 1850 the building has always been a pub; its construction granted by permission of the local parish priest, and to this day the pub carries the responsibility for the repair of the church roof.

Due to the pub's age and prolonged periods of poor investment, we have a rolling plan of upgrades to be done as they can be afforded. To this end we lack some of the niceties of modern buildings such as baby changing facilities and proper disabled / wheelchair access. We do the best we can with the building we have and are offer help and assistance where necessary.
The Fur & Feathers is a true independent “Free House” dedicated to bringing the very best produce, as local as possible, to you for a reasonable price.

No pub company or brewery, financier or clever consultants, just a hard working family doing
their level best.
